The A1 Mini is the easiest starting point. It is compact, quiet and prints reliably out of the box with PLA, which suits first-time makers, homes and classrooms. You can add the AMS Lite later if you want automatic multi-colour printing without buying a new machine.

Both are open-frame printers that pair with the AMS Lite for multi-colour printing. The A1 has a larger build area for bigger models, while the A1 Mini has a smaller footprint that fits a standard bench, which makes it a good fit for tighter spaces and shared classroom use.

For enclosed printing we recommend the P2S. Its closed CoreXY design holds heat steadily, which helps with materials such as ABS and ASA, and it keeps fumes and moving parts contained. That makes it a strong all-round choice for offices, schools and busy workshops.

Several models work with a Bambu Lab Automatic Material System, which switches between up to four filament spools automatically during a print. The A1 and A1 Mini use the AMS Lite, while the enclosed CoreXY models work with the AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT. AMS units can also be bought on their own.

Bambu Lab printers run standard 1.75 mm filament, including PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS and ASA, with engineering materials supported on the enclosed and high-temperature models. Bambu Lab filament carries an RFID tag that the AMS reads for automatic settings, and our own EL3D filament and other trusted brands also work well.
